Every athlete’s journey is marked by moments that test their resolve. Reka Orsi Toth has encountered several throughout a career that has seen her compete among the world’s best.
A recent example came in Brasilia, where she and partner Valentina Gottardi claimed silver at a Beach Pro Tour Elite event.
“More recently, I am very proud of the journey we had together with Vale at the last tournament in Brasilia,” Orsi Toth said. “I know that when things become difficult, both of us give our very best, so I am very proud of our team and of the way we handle challenging situations.”
The ability to rise to those moments has become a defining feature of Orsi Toth’s career. During a difficult period in her life, volleyball taught her a lesson that continues to guide her to this day.
“I think one of the most important lessons volleyball taught me during a difficult period in my life is to believe in yourself and not wait for someone else to do it for you,” Orsi Toth said. “There is nothing you need to prove to anyone except yourself.”
The lesson became one she carried into every stage of her career. It is also the message she hopes the next generation will carry with them as they begin their own journeys in volleyball.
“One lesson I would like the next generation to carry with them is to never forget why they started playing,” Orsi Toth said. “Even during the difficult moments of your career, remember that reason, because it is the foundation and the core of why you do it.”
The journey so far has taken Orsi Toth through difficult setbacks and success, each contributing to the story she continues to write on the sand. The lessons she has gathered along the way remain as important as any result.
