Russia women’s Superliga leaders Dinamo Moscow and Dinamo-Ak Bars Kazan won big matches on Tuesday to widen the gap with their followers and get closer to securing the two direct spots in the Final Six.
17-year-old junior international Arina Fedorovtseva impressed with seven aces in Dinamo Kazan’s emphatic 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-18) away victory over third-placed Lokomotiv Kaliningrad.
The 1.90m-tall outside hitter and U17 European Championship MVP also delivered two kill blocks and eight spiking points towards the match high of 17 points, one clear of her teammate, Mexican international Samanta Bricio. With a total of 19 aces so far this season, Fedorovtseva has the league’s highest average of 0.51 per set.
In another high-level encounter played on Tuesday, table toppers Dinamo Moscow produced a convincing 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) home win over last year’s bronze medallists Uralochka-NTMK Ekaterinburg. Russia star Nataliya Goncharova was the best scorer of the match on 17 points, including four blocks. Her season total of 364 points puts her in number six in the Superliga ranking, but her per-set average of 5.87 is second only to that of Uralochka’s Kseniia Parubets (6.03) who has been out for months recovering from an injury.
Dinamo Moscow (56 points) and Dinamo Kazan (55) lead the way on a 19-1 win-loss record each. Lokomotiv Kaliningrad come next on 16-5, followed by Dinamo Krasnodar (14-7), Leningradka Saint Petersburg (13-8) and Uralochka-NTMK Ekaterinburg (11-10).
