Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in China, with the country continuing to play an important role in the Global Volleyball Movement from grassroots through to the elite levels.
As part of this ongoing collaboration, Beijing Sport University (BSU) representatives, led by Chairperson of Beijing Sport University Council Mr Fan Zhanbei, were recently welcomed to FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne.
Discussions explored BSU’s important role in achieving FIVB Strategic Vision 2032 through close cooperation, coaching and athlete support, and future partnerships.
The meeting built on the close relationship between the two organisations, following the visit of FIVB President Fabio Azevedo and senior FIVB officials to BSU in Beijing in July 2025. As one of China’s leading institutions in sports science, physical education and management, BSU plays an essential role in cultivating not only elite high-performance athletes but also developing grassroots opportunities.
Mr Fan said: “We are really looking forward to our cooperation in the future”; he also sees that the accomplishments delivered “are not just far-reaching but also very practical and concrete.”
The BSU was also represented by Mr Huang Haiyan, Dean, School of Management, Ms Wang Xueshuang, Deputy Director, Graduate School, Mr Liang Zhijun, Vice Dean, China Volleyball College, Ms. Wu Jun, Deputy Secretary General of Chinese Olympic Academy and Vice Dean, School of International Education and Exchange and Ms Zhang Ming, Professor, China Volleyball College.
During the meeting, FIVB President Fabio Azevedo highlighted the Global Volleyball Movement’s close collaboration with China.
“China has a very important role in achieving our FIVB Strategic Vision 2032 which includes growing the number of people connected to volleyball from 800 million to 1.6 billion. This shines a light on encouraging growth in the sport, whilst working “Together as One” to make volleyball more accessible, more affordable and more understandable. We look forward to seeing the expansion of volleyball, beach volleyball, and air volleyball in this regard.
“We are very grateful to be working with BSU to grow the sport top down but also bottom up – educating and training the current and future stars of the sport.”
