Brazil’s strong volleyball legacy and its place at the heart of the sport’s global future were in focus as an FIVB and Volleyball World delegation visited the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
Collaboration and working towards a collective vision for volleyball and beach volleyball formed the central theme of the meetings. Brazil has long been one of the sport’s great powerhouses, with major success across all levels and both disciplines,
The country has also provided some of volleyball’s most memorable stages – from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where Brazil celebrated gold in both men’s volleyball and men’s beach volleyball, to World Cups, VNL and a number of other major FIVB events. São Paulo will also welcome the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship again this December.
FIVB Secretary General Hugh McCutcheon was joined by South American Volleyball Confederation (CSV) President and FIVB Executive Vice-President Marco Tullio Teixeira, FIVB Senior Advisor Fernando Lima and Volleyball World Chief Product Officer Marcelo Hargreaves for the visit.
The delegation was welcomed by CBV President Radamés Lattari, Vice-President Gustavo Toroca, Technical Director Jorge Bichara and Indoor Competitions Manager Marcelo Elgarten.
The visit fostered collaboration, reinforcing the close relationship between the entities responsible for managing and promoting the sport at the national, South American, and international levels. The Volleyball Calendar 2029-2032 was also discussed during the meetings.
For Radamés Lattari, closer ties between the institutions are essential for strengthening volleyball.
“It is very important to welcome the FIVB to our headquarters and to further strengthen this relationship,” said Lattari. Close dialogue between the organisations is fundamental for identifying opportunities, sharing experiences and working together toward the development of volleyball. Brazil plays a highly significant role in the sport’s international landscape, and the CBV is always ready to contribute and forge new paths in partnership with the FIVB and other volleyball organisations.”
FIVB Secretary General Hugh McCutcheon said:
“It is always important to connect with the Global Volleyball Movement’s many stakeholders. Brazil holds a significant place in volleyball with its rich history, passionate fans and the success of its beach and indoor teams. From Rio 2016 to the many international events hosted here, the country and its fans have provided a wonderful stage for our sport.
“It was a pleasure to visit the CBV and have these conversations in person as we continue to strengthen our relationship and work together to shape the future of our sport.”
