The FIVB is deeply saddened by the passing of Mohamad Assaf, a former Lebanon national team player and coach who dedicated decades of his life to volleyball.
Assaf represented Lebanon as a player during the 1960s before moving into coaching. His connection with the national team continued over the following decades, including serving as head coach of the Lebanon men’s national team in Arab competitions during the 1990s.
He was involved in the national team’s preparations in 1994 and later led Lebanon at the 9th Arab Men’s Volleyball Championship in Cairo in 1996.
Assaf also contributed to the national team programme through the Lebanese Volleyball Federation, serving as Chairman of the Coaches and National Teams Committee and supporting the development of coaches and the technical preparation of Lebanon’s national teams.
His service to Lebanese volleyball was recognised by the Lebanese Volleyball Federation in 2019, when he was honoured for his distinguished career and contribution to the sport.
The FIVB extends its deepest condolences to Mohamad Assaf’s family, friends and the Lebanese volleyball community.
