Volleyball brings people together. But that only means something if the competition itself is fair. That is what Play True Day is about, and it is why the FIVB is proud to be part of it.
On 17 April 2026, the FIVB joins the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and anti-doping partners around the world in marking Play True Day under this year’s theme: “Play True. It Starts with You.” The message is clear. Clean sport is built from the ground up, through the daily decisions of everyone involved in the sport.
Where the FIVB stands
The FIVB has a zero-tolerance policy to doping. In 2023, the FIVB took a significant step by delegating its global anti-doping testing programme to the International Testing Agency (ITA) – bringing in independent expertise and a more rigorous, targeted approach to testing across the volleyball ecosystem. The programme has grown steadily since, and at the most recent meeting of the FIVB Medical Commission, members reviewed the 2025 anti-doping figures and took stock of how far the programme has come.
Commission President Dr Annie Peytavin opened the session with a reminder of what this work is really for. “I want to reaffirm that, as a Commission, we are always here to support athletes so they can perform at their best from both a physical and a mental point of view,” she said. Protecting clean sport is also about making sure athletes feel like they are supported, valued and heard.
Part of a Bigger Vision
The FIVB’s commitment to integrity is woven into everything it does. The FIVB Strategic Vision 2032 is the roadmap for where volleyball is headed over the next six years. Clean sport sits at the intersection of this.
You cannot talk about empowering athletes without protecting them. You cannot continue to grow a professional, globally respected sport without a foundation of trust. The Vision reflects what volleyball stands for – the idea that sport can make the world a little better. None of that works if the results on the court are not from a clean sport environment.
When creating the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032, FIVB President Fabio Azevedo said “Volleyball has the power to bring people together and make the world a better place. Let’s do it all together. Together as one.” On Play True Day, that is exactly the spirit the FIVB calls on.
